anyone else with a crucial c300 ssd not being recognized on an asus mb (sata3 connector)?

i've found a few threads online about people with diff asus mb's and the c300 not working on the marvell sata3 controllers. i just got my p6x58d-e board and the marvell refuses to see any drives whatsoever. i've tried connecting the c300, 2 raptors and a wd black. nothing.
i flashed to the latest bios, still nothing.

i finally gave up and just put the drives on the sata2 connectors and am up and running now, i'm hoping a future bios update will resolve this, at that point i can just move the c300 to the sata6 controller and have it boot from that correct? i set everything to ahci before installing win7. i considered i possibly could have a bad motherboard, but it's happening to others as well, with multiple asus boards that have the marvell sata3 controllers.

yea it was on, and i tried both ahci and ide modes, still won't recognize anything, i also tried both sata 6mb and sata 3mb cables :\

i went ahead and installed win7 already on the sata2 ports, hopefully i won't have to rma the board ugh

You can't just move it over, and no drive will be recognized if you don't load the drivers for the Marvell controller. You can probably move it over if you install the Marvell controller drivers in Windows first. That is probably your problem, as I seriously doubt they are included in Win7 startup discs yet, and you didn't mention that you had tried that (does Windows setup even prompt for drive controller drivers anymore?).

If I had a C300, I would test it on my Rampage III gene. I am just hoping that the drives with the new controllers coming in Q4 any beyond perform better on the Marvell controller than on ICH10R. Intel will almost definitely make sure that their new G3 controller drives will work better on ICH11R or whatever SB chipset they release next.

the marvell drivers are already installed in my win7.
the main problem is the marvell 9128 controller says no drives detected in the bios
no matter what cables/settings i use in the bios. yet on the intel sata2 ports, they all recognize this drive

i also tried both sata 6mb and sata 3mb cables
I can only but hope you didn't pay extra for a SATA6 cable.

All SATA cables have the same specs and the SATA1,2,3,6,10, or 6 Zillion is marketing hype.

Have you looked for an update for your controller on the Marvell site or a BIOS update for your MB?

They do have a physical difference though - SATA6 has a ridge down the middle of the cable.

(Not sure what this means in reality!)

Can the Marvell controller be set between IDE mode and AHCI mode? Has the OP tried the different modes (if any) to see which one recognizes the drive?

I thought I read that somewhere about the Marvell controller..........

i set the marvell sata6 controller on ahci, ide and raid modes to see if it would recognize anything on it. i connected the c300, 2 diff raptors (150gig and 74gig), as well as a WD black 1tb drive, it should see the drives.

i'm leaning towards a bios or board issue right now

Hope not but just FYI I did see a post/review on new egg that someone had a bad sata6 controller on your MB. I have yet to hook up my C300 on my MB (P7P55D-E) because I'm in the LOTRO beta and have not had time. Not the same marvell chip that I know of but.....

I'm not sure when the LOTRO beta ends but I don't want the down time to install my SSD when I need the time to give input on the game I play the most.

anyone else with a crucial c300 ssd not being recognized on an asus mb (sata3 connector)?

1. Marvell qualified the C300 series on this motherboard. ;)
2. PM me your email address and we will offer direct support instead of playing post tag.

Hello all,

This is my first post here so be gentle with me..!

Is there any update to this issue? I do experience the same problem with the 64gb C300 not being detected by the Marvell ports but working fine on the Intel ports. Other HDD's and Optical drives are detected OK.

What I notice is that when connected, the SSD doesn't trigger the Marvell boot messages, but other drives do.
Very odd. I am only trying to run one SSD, no raid set up and I didnt anticipate these problems.

Anyone got any further info if it can actually be resolved?

do all mobos use the Marvell controller if they have SATA 6 ? How about the AMD 880 G / GX boards ? Does it differ by platofrm (Intel / AMD) ?

Yes they use the Marvell controller and can I ask if you are following the correct way to have the drive recognized? I learned myself that it is a screwy mobo and learned the hard way. I had to:

1. Type diskmgmt.msc in the run box and then the Crucial format and assign a drive letter;
2. Go into the Bios Menu/Boot and under the Boot Device Priority Option, ensure Crucial is listed as 1st Boot. Go to Hard Disk Drives and ensure the Crucial is the first drive. Exit, save and reboot.

Thanks Flamenko but thing is for me is that I dont actually get to OS stage when on the Marvell ports.
The real noticeable difference between this drive and others is that it does not invoke the Marvell splash screen (which allows CTRL M) whereas a samsung mech drive or an optical drive does. I am using a 6gb cable that came with the mobo and the drive is recognised A-OK and works fine on the Intel ports.
So, in conclusion I have the following scenario..

i) The Marvell 6G ports work fine with traditional hardware devices.
ii) The C300 is always recognised by the Intel 3G ports
iii) The C300 can be loaded with the OS (Win 7) and boots and works fine provided on the Intel ports.

I am set up for AHCI everywhere in BIOS and since the marvell ports work fine otherwise I know they are properly enabled etc.

In conclusion, it appears that it is the "combination" of a C300 with the marvell 6G sata ports that doesnt work as it should.

Maybe I should try another type of SSD on the Marvell ports if I can get my hands on something to confirm if this is indeed the case..

Meanwhile, I will continue to run on the Intel ports where all appears to work well.

yea same here, it's like the marvell isn't there at all when i put the c300 on it.
still waiting to hear back from gary at this point as others are having issues
with the marvell/c300 combo. not really looking forward to formatting again.

It's been a month and Gary and you cant get it running:eek:

I did get mine going but as I said it was on a P7P55D-E and that uses the Marvell 9123/9120 controller.
