c300 64GB vs Vertex LE 50GB (wrong! Vertex 2 E 60GB, FTW)

So I'm trying to decide between these 2 drives and my major need is small random read and write I/O. It'd be nice but not necessary to have the larger drive.

Anyone want to help lean me in a particular direction?

Ok never mind... dug through the specs on them both a few more times. Looks more like a Vertex 2 E 60GB is in my future.

The Vertex 2 E 60GB is SandForce same as the Vertex 2 (non E). The difference between the 2 is merely the reserved space.

The reason to go with the Vertex 2 over the other 2 I had picked out is buried in the specs. The other 2 are 50k Random READ IOps and 15k Random WRITE IOps. The Vertex 2 is 50k Read or Write.

It's going in RAID 1, so that would suck but not be an issue. While I won't have a hot spare for it, I can setup the RAID to mirror to the painfully slow HDD(s) that are currently being used.

So my Vertex 2 E 60G has been working away for a couple weeks now. Very happy with the speed, this thing is ridiculous fast. I've got 3 VMs running on it and they're all CPU bound now instead of being massively HDD IO bound.

It's a beautiful thing.

Aren't the Vertex 2 and Vertex LE different drives? And don't the LE drives have a reputation for bricking?

No matter which SSD drive, it is a GREAT idea to have it fully backed up 🙂 I have a Corsair 128GB that has been bullet proof. My new BFF. But you better believe it has a current backup.
