C2D Overclocking - 2.4GHz @ idle with EIST

I have an E6600 that I have at 3.2GHz. Speedstep is now only bringing it down to 2.4GHz (stock speed!) when the CPU is idle. I want it to go down to like 1.2GHz or even less. My computer always stays on but I only need the extra speed occasionally and I don't want to be using all this extra power the rest of the time for nothing and I don't want to have to reboot to change the speed when I need it. Ideally I'm looking for a way that's transparent like Speedstep.

thats not possible if you have your FSB overclocked. from the numbers you gave im assuming your fsb is 400. 400x8 for 3.2 and EIST brings it down to 400x6 for 2.4

not much you can do man.

dude it doesn't really consume that much more power, maybe like a few dollars worth of electricity a year. maybe more than a few, but still very negligible.

lol think of it this way man. it's still churning out more clock cycles per volt, so in that sense it is still more efficient. just run like folding@home in the background and you'll always be using it.
