OC'd my C2D E6750

Running 3.2ghz now and no errors on prime95 or Memtest86+

After a 45 min run Prime95 the temp stayed stable @ 56-57, never going higher then 58... I used the cpu heavy test (light on memory one).... Don't know where the temps should be, I'm going to buy a new HSF just haven't yet, but I'm curious to know if the 58 was too hot.

When I use coretemp I'm getting a lot higher readings... (+10-15c)

stock cooler r no? coretemp is what u should be using, thats the real temp. its actually dangerously high, u prolly have a bad mount, but save urself the trouble and get an arctic freezer 7 pro. i have one on my e6750 and it keeps it below 60C (coretemp) @ 3.6 with 1.35 volts. for the time being set it back to stock and dont stress is

i assumed 58C is full load? if yes then it's borderline between acceptable and bad, especially at 3.2ghz.

i'd get a new cooler asap.

It's back to stock speeds (8x333 = 2.6ghz) and showing 40/44c for each cpu right now... isn't that a bit high even for the stock HSF?

EDIT: Under no load with those temps.

thats a tad high... depending on your ambient. I would keep it stock till you get another HSF if your uncomfortable with your current temps. USE CORETEMP:D

Not dangerously hot. There's still around 25C of headroom before the CPU begins to throttle.

re: temp stayed stable @ 56-57 .....When I use coretemp I'm getting a lot higher readings... (+10-15c)

so, your real temp is 72C, never mounted my stock cooler, dont know it's temps.....google some and maybe re-seat the cooler ?

whoa, 72c, that is a bit warm. you might want to try reseating the heatsink as stated above, and if that doesnt work, you may have to lower the overclock until you get a better cooler. the e6750 is the g0 stepping tho, with the tjunction at 100c i believe, so 72c isnt that bad, but it certainly isnt good either.

Yup, tjunction is 100c. I will try resetting the cooler, everything is at stock settings now and it runs @ 40-45c with no load and 50-60 under load depending on what I'm doing. Still seems a bit warm, I don't when it was OC'd everything ran stable at least.

My GO 6750 runs 43c at idle and reaches 72c under prime for more than 15 minutes with a cheap aftermarket cooler. Eventually I will get a AC Freezer for it but for now I'm not worried about it. I've been playing COD4 and other 3d games nonstop since and no problems. I'm seriously skeptical of the doomsayers about running the cores hot and dying prematurely. Have yet to see an Intel core do so, give me a documented case of dead core at less than 80c and then we'll talk.

Ok, I reset the HSF and it seems like the temps are a little lower now... temps are ~40c no idle and ~63 with prime95 after the temps stabilized @ ~ 6 minutes of Prime95. I'm not going to OC it until I get a new HSF... I let Prime95 run for 15 mins, and it never went above 63c. Does it sound like it's a little better now?

Yeah, as has been said already - get a diff cooler, then start to clock it.

I've got a Freezer 7 Pro - for about 15 or 16 squids - ya cant go wrong :)

There are better (and dearer) coolers... depends how far ya wanna push things I spose!

Saying that - as ya can see from my sig - I aint doing too badly with the Freezer :D

I've just been doing some more tinkering and got things up to 3.84Ghz....but it wouldn't run stable - just starting an overnight run of Orthos at 3.76Ghz to see how that goes....(looking promising - nearly 30mins into the test and OK so far with max temps of 60*C....)

This 6750's a cracking cpu as is the ballistix ram and P35C DS3R combo..... :)

Good luck when ya get your new cooler ;)

Update: Bummer! Errored after about 45 mins - 5mins after I went to bed - so it's beeping merrily away for about 6 or 7hrs....no wonder the dog looked up at me with disgust when I came back downstairs

One of the most price-worthy hsf is the Scythe Miné, about half the price of top coolers, and is perfect for "modest" OC (not 4GHz), it's light weight, has 100mm fan + very silent.

Is 58c too hot?

Not realy,

running Orthos and rthdribl together for more than 1hr i get:

cpu core: 66°C max
gpu core: 83°C max

6750 cpu @3.6Ghz @1.48V
8800GT @690//1000 @47%fan

(see specs for info)

Note: on stock cooler i couldn't get higher than 3200mhz Orthos stable (also due to a strange fsb-unbootable-mobo-gap between 1600 and 1750fsb) Today i installed a Scythe Mugen (infinity) and got past 3600Mhz no problem.
