Just got my E6600 today. Its L644G386
I heard F steping is bad for OC. Anyone know any site(s) I can check up on to find out if my CPU is any good for OC?

I don't know of any sites, but I can tell you that the B steppings overclock the best, the A steppings are second-best, and the F steppings are third best. Supposedly the G steppings aren't going much past 3.0 Ghz, according to the people who've bought them.

Of course, you do realize that there are good chips in every stepping, and bad chips in every stepping, don't you? The only way to find out whether you own a good chip or not is to see what it will do.

Thanks myocardia. Very true indeed. I know I came across a link last week that has a database of many CPUs, its stepping, voltage, etc... I just cant seemed to find that link anymore.

I thought someone might know it here.

I had 47G until yesterday. I got it from a local Frys, but I returned it after scoring an L651B.

It wasn't a bad one though. It just need more voltage than an A I've already had, but the G definately ran cooler than the A, around 10C cooler. The new B also runs cooler

I have a week 46 G and it does 3.4 at 1.5 bios (1.475 actual) and 3.2 at 1.4 bios (1.375 actual). Not bad but not amazing. I'm happy with it.

Gramboh, i noticed you have Asus P5B deluxe. How you like the mobo cause that's what I bought with wifi. For mem, I got super talent DDR2 800 (T800UX2G4). I'm not looking for extreme OC. Hoping for a rock solid system at around 3.4ghz

If you do not hit 3.4 ghz. USe the 8x multiplier running 400 fsb with a 1:1 memory divider. Performance will be very close to 3.4 ghz. Will allow you to run your memory 1:1 as well which is nice. Otherwise 4:5 divider can be a bit flaky on the p5b.

Thanks for the heads up. Those of you running AsusP5B board, what BIOS version are you running? I believe the most current is 1101.

I think I'm using 1004 or 1009 final, whatever the one from January 2007 (the last one before 1101).

I am very happy with the board (non-wifi version). It is rock solid and has good features/NB cooling. I am running at 8x400 with memory at 1:1 4-4-4-15 (2.1v) and it's solid. I can run it at 8x425 but it requires more volts. I had the same goal as you, stable with a decent overclock (I wanted 3.2-3.4) and most importantly quiet. I have my P182B fans set on low and a 1200rpm Scythe on my Ultra 120. The system is very quiet for the power it has.

I got rid of my "G" batch, L647G, and it blew. On a P5B-Deluxe, I maxed out at 333x9, no matter voltage/multiplier. Swapped for an "A" batch (L640A), first test @ 3.3ghz (367x9), rock solid Orthos stable. I'm excited to see how far I can push this chip.

EDIT: Using BIOS 1101 for my P5B-WiFi
