c2d e4400 at 1.2Ghz??

Hi there

Just finish a build for my uncle. Strange, how come the CPU is only at 1.2Ghz instead of @Ghz. Anything I need to go and set in BIOS or elsewhere??

That's called SpeedStep. It's just like AMD's Cool n Quiet-- it reduces the cpu's speed and voltage, when it isn't doing anything. Start up any application that uses the processor, and it will immediately be back up to 2.0 Ghz.

The speed/frequency also appears during startup in BIOS though.

In that case, just go into the bios and make sure the cpu multiplier is at 10 and not 6. You may have to press ctrl-F1 to get into the right screen in your bios.

While you're there, just pump up the fsb to 266 for a nice easy overclock.

if you turn power management off in windows it will run 2.0 ghz all the time also.
