C2D based computer running Linux

I'm thinking of building a Linux box (Ubuntu) using E6300 and a decent mobo. My timeframe is about a month or so from now (i.e., I'd like to have it up and running by Thanksgiving). For the mobo I seem to be leaning toward ASUS P5B-E (if I could get rev. 1.02 or a later one). I do plan to do as much overclock as I can without spending more than $40 on addt-l/better (air) cooling (read: I'm willing to replace stock HSF with something better, but not much more). Now some questions:

0) is there any reason Not to get P5B-E?
1) should I get E6400 instead (to have a better chance of getting FSB😀RAM = 1:1 at max overclock)?
2) I'm currently NOT planning to get a floppy drive -- is it going to make my life a LOT more complicated given some of the things below?
3) are there still issues of installing Linux on an SATA drive?
4) is there any black magic involved in getting performace RAID of 2 320GB HDDs, or is this something I can setup at the "BIOS level" prior to OS installation? (such that it is absolutely transparent to OS)
5) will I be totally forfeiting NCQ and other niceties of AHCI?
6) are there adequate monitoring/benchmarking tools for Linux (like CPU-z, etc.) -- I'd hate having to install (and to get, in the 1st place) Windows just to have access to programs like that.

I'd appreciate any other thoughts that might be relevant to this topic. Thanks!
