C2D 6300 vs X2

Im looking to upgrade in maybe a month,

My options are: ( NO OVERCLOCKING, CANADIAN DOLLARS HERE)

1. buy an X2 (prices going back up beacuse of supply), buy a pci-e mobo, buy a 7900GTish video card

2. buy an X2 AM2, mobo, 7900GTish, ddr2 ram

3. buy a core 2 duo, mobo, 7900GTish, same ddr2 ram

I will only buy an Asus board.

So lets say cpu+mobo for AM2 X2 or 939 X2 would be around 150$MOBO + ~250$CPU.

Cheapest C2D I can find around here in Canada is the 6300, for 250$. Closest Asus motherboard to 150$ price to match the AMD systems is the P5B for 180$

While this is all fine and dandy, this board costs more, does not have sata, sli, its almost a bare featured board

Any suggestions for this situation, (i am definatley not going with option 1)

Looking to spend around 400$ CDN for cpu+mobo

Since your DDR is the only thing you could re-use with s939 PCI-e (well, aside from HDDs etc of course), it sounds like AM2 is the way to go for you.

Oh yea the X2 would either be the 4200+ or the 4600+ depending on the prices... not sure if the 4400+ exists any longer..

what kind of performance would I expect comparing these 3 options.

yea the only difference in keeping 939 is the cost of DDR2

may even wait til boxing day, as i have not had this system for as long as i hoped (its been slightly over a year now), i also wanted to wait for G80

If you're not overclocking then get the price equivalent AMD system. If you've got DDR haning around then go for 939.
