C1 Steppings are cool!

So could someone enlighten me on this? (i just ordered a 2.4b and it is on its way here!)

C1 stepping basically means the chip has a higher potential max clockspeed because of better yeilds resulting from refinements in the manufacturing process. To determine if you get a C1 just go here follow the directions and click on the link to the Spec finder.

Wingznut, do you have any unofficial comment regarding the rumors that the Springdale and Canterwood chipsets will unlock the multipliers on Pentium 4 CPU's?

Heh, believe it or not, this cpu won't run at a high FSB... It isn't stable above 142mhz.

I can run it all day at 21x142, but not for a minute at 15x143. I've tried every different memory timings, locking the AGP/PCI, three different motherboards... All with the EXACT same results. So, I just run it at 21x133.

Motherboards cannot unlock a P4. The cpu is unlocked on the die itself by cutting a fuse. And I'm talking on the microscopic scale. Not the same type of fuses that you use in your AMC Pacer.

And yes, the 9700 PRO is a VERY impressive piece of hardware. I haven't been this happy with a video card since I got my V5-5500.

that's a shame ,any ideal why your p4 cant handle the higher fsbs?

I am not looking for an official statement,just speculation.

because we have seen tom take a recent p4 to 800 fsb and i was wondering why yours cant do it.

I guess you just have bad luck mixed in with your good luck.
