How about the we stop letting manufacturers provide their own estimates and have the EPA do a test that actually replicates real world driving? No I don't mean drive at 50mph and then do some stupid calculation to "estimate" what mpg would be at 70mph. Are test engineers afraid to drive 70?

And while we're at it, let's crash test cars at real speeds. Oh so a car protects you in a 30mph collision? I don't care, that's bicycling speed. Tell me how well it protects at 70mph.

Completely useless IMO. Too many variables at that speed.

Ford owners are finding out these cars need a lot of break in time. Like 20,000 miles of break in.

Lots of reports of people mileage really improving at around 15K with huge improvements at 20-25K in mileage.

My 2013 Fusion Hybrid has 13,000+ miles on it at 42.1mpg lifetime, although on commutes (30 miles, almost all @ 55-60mph) I've seen some 49 and 50+mpg trips.

I just had the ecm flashed at the dealership on Friday, so we'll have to see how that works on my next trip to Portland.

I knew going in that the Fusions and C-Max's were having trouble matching the 47mpg rating...didn't really bother me, as styling, comfort, and driveability is what sold me on the vehicle.

eh? I thought that MPG testing was independently done by the government.

Isn't the CMAX really spacious? So like it's closer to a Prius V anyways, which gets like 10MPG less than a regular prius.

As I pointed out in the other thread with the limited amount of people posting on fuelly so far is is pretty much even with the Prius V. The C-Max has 50 more HP so I'm happy to give up a 2-3mpg over the Prius for that.

The thing is, the C-Max is more comparable to a Prius rather than Prius V. Knowing that, I'd rather have a Prius or a Prius V than the C-Max. C-max is a not a very large vehicle at all and TFL car reviewed it showing how cramped it was inside.

No it's largely done by the mfg with the EPA spot checking.

While the public mistakenly presumes that this federal agency is hard at work conducting complicated tests on every new model of truck, van, car, and SUV, in reality, just 18 of the EPA’s 17,000 employees work in the automobile-testing department in Ann Arbor, Michigan, examining 200 to 250 vehicles a year, or roughly 15 percent of new models. As to that other 85 percent, the EPA takes automakers at their word—without any testing—accepting submitted results as accurate.
