C&C Red Alert 3

Well, DRM-free in the fact that it doesn't have SecuRom, just Steam.

Does this make the game worth buying?

I enjoyed C&C 3 but never did pick up Kane's Wrath. I was a bit bitter after buying C&C3 through EA Link then getting shut out of the the game entirely, along with B&W2 BotG, when they discontinued the service. I eventually picked up C&C 3 for less than 20 several months ago.

Red Alert 3 is an amazing rts. Easily the best C&C since Generals.

. . . I thought Generals was horrible, but admittedly, I only played it once. The only way I'd buy it down would be through Steam and only if the price is comparable to the prices I could find in B&M stores.

I didn't care much for RA3. Picked up Company of Heroes Gold instead, way better RTS.

RA3 is decent. The singleplayer campaigns are fun to go through, but you probably won't be playing it much beyond that. C&C3 was a much better game overall.

Are the HD cut scenes available from BT or elsewhere?

Red alert 3 sucks and is not worth your money at all, i agree with buying CoH gold its much more fun and has a bigger online community. C&C3 sucked as well. RA3 is far too stupid to really be a proper C&C, if youve played RA1 and see how the series has progressed to this its just joke really.... the games not even fun... at least RA2 with its batshit crazy storyline was a lot of fun to play online, and still is i might add, RA3 just fails on every level.

@jdelrio22 i dunno what you mean by "online issues" but the servers are very stable nowadays, rarely are they down, a lot of bugs have been fixed since i first played CoH online a year ago, as for balance well you could argue about that for ages i guess (well i couldnt others on relicnews probably could though) IMO balance is fine.

I am sick to death of WW2 games. I'll get CoH when its 5 dollars, and probably never actually play it.

I rarely play RTS online these days, I'll play through the campaigns and possibly play on LANs, but very rarely online. Actually, I haven't done it online since SC1 on Bnet in 2000.

And I liked C&C3 . . . Although, I didn't think it was as good as Supreme Commander, it had a more entertaining story line plus HD cut scenes.

It's much worse than CNC3. RA3 is probably one of the worst RTS games I've played.
It sucks because it looks like EA didn't even try on this one.
Probably not as abysmal as Supreme Commander though. After the outstanding Total Annihilation that has to be the most disappointing sequel.

CNC3 was very good. It's probably the best RTS I've played in the last few years.

I would say just buy Kane's wrath since you can probably get it for $10 or so if you look around. It's campaign is at least worth a go and it adds some interesting units.

I only play multiplayer, so that is what I will comment on. I feel Red Alert 3 is eons ahead of C&C3, and I enjoyed it immensely. The gameplay is more balanced, units more varied, and overall a better product. I highly recommend RA3.

Not much love for RA3, I guess.

I still maintain that SupCom was a fun game. It didn't have the hundreds of units that TA had, but most people only used a relative handful of them anyway. I enjoyed SupCom, still do, though when I plan it at LANs, I'm usually on my laptop and its single core Dothan gets bogged down as a game progresses.

RA3 sucks, I also prefer COH.

But you can wait and try out the DoW2 coming out in a few weeks, also you can try the beta on steam on the 26th I think.

I loved Sup Com, and I love RA3. Multiplayer in RA3 is incredibly fun, especially if you decide to compete in the ladders or play with friends. The game is pretty well balanced, looks amazing, sounds amazing, and is fun as heck.

I like RA3 more than C&C3. I challenge anyone to find an rts that has better naval unit and water effects. RA3 looks better than company of heroes imo.

A number of others have said the same, and it's easy to see why. Some aspects of the gameplay are needlessly dumbed down from C&C3 (simplified resource system, no tech upgrades, no infantry squads), there are some glitches with the interface and individual unit AI that I never encountered in C&C3, and the skirmish mode has an inferior enemy AI and a reduced number of maximum players. My impression was also that the Soviets are a little too strong compared to the other sides, although I only played the game briefly outside the campaign.

I kind of like that every unit's secondary ability is available without upgrading. Upgrading felt tedious in other RTS's because you were expected to do it every time. Might as well remove the mechanic.

Way better and more important: STAYS TRUE TO THE ORIGINAL GAME as in: No funny looking, bloated, kiddy-candy units or titty-showing cutscenes. The mod is still in beta, but it's done by the same team which did C&C: Shockwave so they are pros. Can't say the same for the EA LA team.

Regardless, I don't have Generals, previously the weakest title in the C&C franchise.
