I just find it strange that it slows down so much thats it's unplayable. I consider my rig to be pretty fast and surely it can handle an "older" game like generals. After 8 patches (4 on Zero Hour), it still has a slowdown problem?

Is this just me? is there a way to stop it? (I also play the Blitzkreig mod for Zero Hour and that seems to slow down even worse)

Suggestions?

Hmm... that's strange... You have a faster rig than I do (assuming it's the one in your sig), but I can still run Generals very well on my XP 2700+, 1gb, and 9700pro. I dont have Zero Hour, however, and I have not patched Generals. I've read that some programs don't like overclocked hardware, so maybe that's your problem? I don't see why overclocking should affect it, but I don't know much about that kind of stuff.

i had a similar problem a while back on my A64 3200 and 6800gt..........some one did explain the likely cause, and its to do with the game. i think i was told not to patch it. i cant remember.

On my old computer(more than 3 years old), it only slowed down when I dropped 16 nukes and 12 of them shiny blasts from the sky all on the same base at the same time. That slowed it down a bit.

If you are having issues, I'd suggest maybe defragging, and checking your drivers. Something is wrong with your computer.

Yea, OP: your rig is insane, if it can't run generals there's got to be a driver problem or something.

Let me guess, you are trying to run with lots of computers in a large map? The game a has bug where it will bog down big time if you play on specific maps with computers. The desert 8 player one is a prime example of one. There is no fix. Your best bet is to play online.

Also, this may seem silly, but I do not know what kind of power supply your using. If its below 400w, that may be your problem, but you porbably already know that. If so, just disregard this.

I had the same problem with my A64 3200+ with 1024 and 9600Pro (and even my X850 a bit now). Whenever I would play most large maps with 4+ AI it would bog down.

I know that's not true. I played that map frequently(Wasn't hard to play against all the computers on those maps), and I never had slow downs.

It is true... memory leaks or something odd happens in the larger maps.

Don't take my word for it, I don't care. I've never had a memory leak in Generals. I played the 8-player maps exclusively, on hard, because it was the only way to make it challenging. Zero Hour... now that was way harder and I didn't try it again after I got that.

I was speaking of Zero Hour. My mistake for assuming that we were speaking of Zero Hour.
