C&C Generals on my rig works fine.

This was in relation to a question I had earlier in an OT thread about C&C Generals. I installed it last night. My CPU is a celeron 1000, so about in line with their minimum P3 800 CPU. I have half a gig of ram (above recommended), and a geforce 3 ti 200 almost as fast as a 500. So, my ram is great, my vid is very decent, but my CPU sucks.

Well I'm sure multiplayer wouldn't go well but single is fine. I can tell it would be nicer to have a faster CPU but the game is definitely enjoyable with this CPU. I'm playing at 800X600X 16 bit, which I know sucks, but anyway this may help others considering to buy the game.

My friend said it runs sweet on his GF3 Ti200 and XP1800 rig which surprised me until he told me the minimums. :p
some people also define "fine" differently than some people. :)

Well at the minimum settings "fine" is great. I mean sure it could scroll better, but I'm not one to enjoy at game at 12 fps. It's very playable and worth buying if your system is like mine - that's what I'm saying! I wouldn't try multi though.

The minimum requirements for games have been that much for some time, I think... but you could probably have two diff games with the same "min requirements" who run totally different on the same system. Anyway, good point skoorb, you don't need the ATOT-ers dream-machine to play every game.

My dad's the same way, but I'm not a middle age guy who doesn't know anything about video games :)

It may slow down on thicker heavy battles and I do see the ocassional chop here and that, but anybody could enjoy the game at least for single on my system. That's my story and I'm stickin to it.

Starting with the original C&C me too, except that sole survivor always looked like garbage to me!

I remember buying and playing the original C&C game a looooong time ago. Problem was, I lived in a WarCraft town back then. Everyone else was buying WC2, and here I was stuck with the 'lowly' C&C game and no one to play with (back in the day of 14.4/28.8 dialup!) So I dumped C&C and went with WarCraft. Never looked back...(though I hear Red Alert was cool in its day...)

After hearing that this game was a system hog I was afraid that it would bring my computer to its knees, but I am also happy to say
it runs quite well. :)

War2 was a doozy, but I always liked C&C at least as much maybe more. I remember downloading the demo to it at 14.4 and starting it up on a P75 in my brother's bedroom. We watched as half a dozen machine gunners opened fire in one of the early missions and wet ourselves on the SPOT. I went out later that day and bought the game. Earlier I'd seen only war 1 or war 2. This was an RTS set with modern day weaponry and it blew my mind.

Red alert was AWESOME. Redalert 2 was great, and even tiberion sun was pretty good. I've only done 4 missions in generals but it's pretty sweet so far. The nukes are just way too nice :D
