I just recently purchased a BFG 7800gs to replace my aging 9600xt. All games run much faster and look better. I especially like AOE3 because the cool SM3 effects like HDR. But the only game i have an issue with is C&C generals. The graphics in the game look worse than before. I have lost all of the cool graphics effects such as the sparkling water even though I have all the settings at high. I believe that the effects such as the sparkling water was a result of pixel shader 2 and vertex shader 2 being used in the game. What doesnt make sense is why my 9600xt (a ps2/vs2 card), which is several years old, has the ability to show these effects when my 7800gs (ps3/vs3) cant show the effects. I first thought it was a driver issue so I downloaded an older set of drivers to see if that would fix it (at the time I was running nvidias newest drivers). That didnt work. I once again installed the latest DirectX version. That didnt work. I even uninstalled and reinstalled the game. That didnt work. I know that when check EAsy info program that game with C&C it reports that I dont have directX installed even though I have DirectX 9.0c installed. Please help me get those cool graphics effects back! I will take any suggestions.

Thanks for the suggestion wizboy11 but it didn't work. I checked the custom options screen and I already had every option on along with the max particle and max texture resolution set all the way to max.

I also downloaded the custom driver but it didnt work either. I even tried drivers from a year or so ago but that wouldnt even let me run the game because the 7800gs was not yet made. The oldest drivers I could use that would successfully run the game although without the pixel shader/vertex shader effects was a driver in February 2006.

I don't know if other people who own the 7800gs have a similiar problem to me because I have not heard of the issue before. The only solution I can see is if I reformat the computer and reinstall everything. I really dont want to do that because its alot of work, especially making copies of all of my word files etc. on to DVD's.

If anyone has any other suggestions please tell me because I really dont want to go through the work of reformating the computer.
