I have been looking for a cheap enclosure for a month. I found this deal on another website and wanted to share it with people here. This is the lowest price I have seen and no rebate required, so you don't have to worry that Bytecc won't send you a rebate check. Price is $29.99 with coupon code "xpcgearw72w" at check out to take $15 off the price. Final price was $14.99 plus shipping so total for me was about $20.

Subtotal: 29.99
Coupon offer (15.00 savings): -15.00
Subtotal: 14.99
Shipping: 5.29
Tax: 0.00
Total: 20.28

Linky

* Converts Hard Drive into a High-Capacity Mobile Storage Device
* LED Activity Indicator
* Anti-Shock design makes a 3.5" Hard Disk Shock Resistant
* 30% higher power density makes its size small.
* Dual output power supply creates a cool environment, which will considerably increases the life-span of Hard Disks.

Thanks hiliter - I was just looking for one of these so this deal couldn't have come at a better time for me. Shipping to me here in peckerwood country was about $1 more than yours, but overall still much hotter than anything else I found.

Thanks OP.

6.70 in shipping for me, and the coupon is against the ORDER not the ITEM so if you want more than one its seperate orders.

Thas case is quite a bit longer than a bare drive but, believe it or not, its cheaper than tha cable-only adapter. Go figure...

does the hard drive determine whether it will be hot swappable or the enclosure? Is this one hot swappable?

Bytecc is a terrible, terrible company - stay far away. They've been given a failing grade by the BBB, their products blow, and they've screwed over many people on rebates.

Its a coupon against xpcgear, not bytecc. No rebate.

I think he meant the company's products in general and the company itself, not specifically their rebates.

It's always hot-swappable (usb).

Make sure you "stop" the hdd so windows stops using it. you dont want to disconnect it when its writing to the drive.

Carefull: the *enclosure* is hot-swapable (after closing it down from Windows), but a UATA drive is *not*. If you want to remove the drive from the enclosure you must first stop it, disconnect it, then power it down.

Heil Hiliter!

Got two for my Inspiron 6000 (one for DVD+-RW, one for 300GB HDD). Going the desktop replacement route for college (Washington & Lee University) next year!

EDIT: Damnit, nevermind... it's only 3.5". Oh well, I might be able to take the casing off and just use the cable for the 5.25" drive.

Nothing wrong with their enclosure. Just bad service on the part of Bytecc. The Bytecc enclosure is OEM from a company called www.welland.com.tw. There product is pretty good, I own about three of their enclousures.

Do they have any coupon deals on their other enclosures?

I could use a combo USB2.0 / Firewire enclosure in either a 3.5" or a 5.25" model.

Thanks
