Bypassing Windows Account help

Got my son an Asus laptop for christmas. He was looking to download some apps/games and it insists that you sign up to a MS account.

I know on my PC back a few months ago, at the bottom of the screen there was a way to continue using my current log in. No option for that on his laptop.

Anyone have any ideas on how to avoid creating a MS account?

You can use Windows 8 itself without an online Microsoft account, but you need an MS account to use the Windows Store.

Well, i'm not sure how my PC is downloading apps?

I recall when I installed 8.1 on my PC, I did go through the process of linking my gmail account with the MS account or whatever but I have since "unlinked" it. I guess I can do the same on my sons PC.

I can download apps on my Pc with no issues.

You can dl programs without needing an MS account. Just dl the .exe from the programs webpage like you would using Win7.
If you want access to the MS Store then you need to create a Live account for him and the pc needs to login at boot. You can access the MS Store using the green tile on the Start Screen.
