Bypassing LinkSYS Firewall

Hey All,

I'm looking to be able to host some unreal tournament games, but don't know how to get past the firewall on my linksys 4 port router.

Can someone please help me?

Thanks

Jim

I believe you do it by adding your Computers Ip number to the DMZ Page. It should be the first Ip on the router if your using dynamic.

Or, if you don't want to expose the entire system, you can use the port forwarding feature in the advanced section of setup.

hey,

i tried the DMZ.....wouldnt let me send files over AIM for some reason.....

I need to know which ports AIM and unreal tournament use.....does any1 know? (because if i use those in port forwarding it would let them work....right?)

someone please explain port forwarding a little more

Thanks in advance,

Jim

Port forwarding allows specific port number to be sent to a computer that you specify. This allows you to run applications, games, servers, etc behind a router. Here is how to forward ports on the Linksys router: Port Forwarding

No idea on AIM (don't use it), but UT is only an issue if you're hosting a server. You should be able to connect to a server fine.

Brian,

Another excellent article.

AIM uses port 5190. make sure you know your internal IP address. I'm not sure if the new Linksys bios has it, but it would be better to use the IP routing table.

i was going to ask a similar question regarding port forwarding..

my question:

i have 4 pcs connected to my linksys router and want to forward ports 113, 6660-6669, 4990-5000 so mIRC will work. is there anyway to specify a range of ip addresses to forward the ports to or do i have to forward each port X 4 ?

what's the difference between port forwarding and port triggering? im using the latest firmware rev 1.39... networking isnt my strong suite

thanks

You guys are correct. The Linksys will listen on specific ports and forward them onto ONE internal IP address. You can't have them forwarded to multiple IP's - How would it know what went where?
