Bypassing a Coffee packet

I have a self contained sachet of Flavia Sumatra blend coffee. This packet has a little plastic thing at the top of it. Normally you slot it into a machine, close the door and it makes coffee for you.

I do not have this machine. I wish to drink this coffee. Can I just open the sachet and add hot water to a cup? Or is there some kind of process or method the machines takes care of that if done manually, will give me some form of disease?

I doubt it'll hurt you, but it might not brew right, and I don't think you want to put the grounds directly in the water, but I'm assuming you have a better plan than that...

Grounds? I thought it might have been liquid. But you are correct, I'm shaking it now and it does not sound liquidy. More...groundy. So perhaps if I acquire a coffee filter, i will be good to go! Cup + coffee filter + hot tap on water cooler = potential win?

That water better be boiling and you'll want to restrict the flow through the filter so that the extraction is decent.

You could make like a tea bag out of a coffee filter, fill the cup with hot water, and let it soak for a bit.

I do not have easy access to a coffee filter 🙁 I was contemplating using my sock, but then my foot would be cold.

/sigh

Use paper towel or something like that.

Socks and underwear are not recommended.

This sounds like the winning equation right here.

Edit... wait, I'm confused, is this coffee already contained in a mostly filter-like material?

no no, its like a plastic rectangle (like a large version of a ketchup packet) with a plastic sealed nozzle coming out the top of it.

Teabag idea does indeed sound like a winner. Ill bring a filter paper in on monday to give it a grand test. If it fails, heads will roll.

hot water is injected into the plastic top. As the pressure increases inside, the bottom breaks open with a filter in place allowing the steeped coffee out of the bottom. You can apply that knowledge to make a ghetto cup of Joe.

could you just eat coffee grounds and have the same effect as making it into coffee? besides the nice warmth and taste?

Mission accomplished. Opened up the little coffee sachet and found that it was full of coffee (duhh) and the bottom of the packet was a filter. So i poured the coffee into a filter in one of those over the cup coffee makers, ran some hot water through, drained it out and ran it through the filter a second time and am now drinking the smoothest tastiest strongest coffee I have had in a while. Yum!
