Is it possible to bring your own alcohol on a cruise? I've heard that they're pretty strict against doing this, and that they thoroughly search your bags before boarding. Anyone have any experience with this?

you can lgally bring your own wine and there is a corkage fee, but its frowned upon brining your own booze. they screen the luggage and will take it away.

why bother? you are on vacation, enjoy yourself.

This is true. Alcohol is one of the biggest source of revenue [edit: or expense, depending on how you look at it] for a cruise so I find it understandable.

Stick with the beer. Cocktails are watered down or use not-so-top-shelf liquor.

Bring 'water' bottles- you can get the 'sealed for safety' neckbands from Uline and use a hair dryer to shink them down.

there is a secret to that... find a favorite bar/lounge. you will usually get the same waiter so tip him/her nicely first time, they will remember you by name and make your drinks strong.
None of the drinks i have drank (and believe me, i have drank alot!) were watery or not great liquor.

I've been on cruise ships twice and both ships scanned passengers everytime they boarded the ship after docking at a port. What I did was use water bottles and replace the water with vodka. But they will definitely catch you bottles of booze you try to smuggle on.

This sounds like a great idea. However, the minimum order is 10,000 bands!

Lola, that's a great idea. However, I doubt it would work with me as I'm not a hot girl like yourself!

Being friendly might help but really... If I were a bartender and someone like you smiled at me, you better believe you'd be getting a good drink. ;)

Good advice! Big tips and being friendly to the bartender will often times get you very far. :)

well i am flattered, and to be honest, i have been giving some nice drinks for "just a smile" but it goes both ways... there are cute waitresses as well. be nice, tip well, and you will get what you desire!
and you would honestly be surprised how far "nice" will get you, guy or girl. :)

and, honestly, why lug all that booze on with you just because you don't want to spend an extra few bucks.

Have the drink of the day if you want to save some money. no matter what cruise line you go on, they will have a drink on special each day... mojitos, margaritas, whatever.

OP, what cruise line and where you heading? :)

I had the same waiter feed me with Becks over and over again on the cruise. I had a $300 alcohol bill by the end of the 10 day cruise, lol

My bill came out to $1,300+ for a one week cruise. The culprits: booze and internet. On the other hand, the cruise itself was free...

Compared to most places, alcohol on cruises is fairly cheap. You can get three drinks of the day for one long island iced tea in Hawaii.

Just beer or mixed drinks as well?

I cannot imagine a $1,300 bill. I keep myself pickled for a week and ours doesn't go over $400-500, depending on what extras we buy.

EDIT: And can those of you on vacation explain to me why you feel the need to pay 50 cents a minute to go on the internet? Any reasoning is beyond me.

Beer? Me? Haha. My poisons are scotch and cognac. But hell, I couldn't say no to B-52's, Kamikazes and all those other froo-froo concoctions.

Heh, never had scotch myself. I guess I'm a bit of a lightweight :p

Regarding the internet, I run a business and at the time, I was involved in a major deal where regularly checking in with the different principals was paramount. So $0.50 a minute was well worth it in my case.

At least you have a good reason. I cannot tell you how many times I saw the same people in the Internet cafe as I walked by.

I'm still really intriqued how you could rack up $1,300. Any cash advances, or jewelery, or perhaps excursions?
