AUBURN, Ala. (AP) -- Auburn has dismissed Tommy Tuberville after 10 years as coach of the Tigers. That word came Wednesday from The Birmingham News. There was no immediate confirmation from Auburn officials.

Tubberville was 85-40 in his decade with Auburn, including a 13-0 season in 2004 when the Tigers finished No. 2 in the nation. But Auburn went 5-7 this year and was routed 36-0 by rival Alabama, currently ranked No. 1.

I guess the 5-7 season and 36-0 loss to Bama really did it in for him.

Congrats Feldenak!

Lots of open college football HC jobs. He'll find work elsewhere quickly.

I don't think he'll go looking too hard, he's got some issues with his neck, and a big pile of cash from this buyout (6 mil, unless it was negotiated down). He also gets retirement pay from the state.

Supposedly Auburn has made unofficial contact with Mike Leach...who has been in unofficial contact with Washington.

I just can't see Leach fitting in at Auburn.

damn i didn't expect this, would be lol if they hired tommy bowden

They've already dealt with one Bowden Boy. I doubt they want to deal with another.

What a shitty move by Auburn. They don't care that he has a record of success, it's all about what someone has done for them lately.

Honestly, it's because of Saban and Lowder (AU booster). Saban has cleaned Auburn's clock in recruiting since he came to Alabama. And Lowder has been trying to get rid of Tubberville for quite a few years now.

I doubt he'll get a look but UF Defensive Coordinator Charlie Strong deserves a shot at a HC position at Auburn or elsewhere.

It's amazing that teams are so quick to pull the plug on coaches. Anybody knows that teams go through booms / busts which are only partially in the coach's control. It also seems like all-too often teams fire a coach, the next guy comes in and, with all the groundwork already done, has a lot of success. It's only later that you realize it had a lot more to do with the guy out the door than the guy in the seat at that moment.

I'm just shocked to see so many long-tenured coaches axed. It's just the trendy thing to do and I think it's going to hurt a lot of these teams in the long-run.

I've heard him mentioned a little, but the focus seems to be on Mike Leach. He seems like a poor fit for Auburn imo.

Other names being thrown around are Brian Kelly (Cincy) and a few ridiculous/won't happen names (Gruden, Cowher).

More and more these days it seems that the Iron Bowl is the meeting "with the Bobs" for the head coaches for these two teams. Whoever loses is on the chopping block, while the winner gets immunity. Tubberville should stay on at AU. What they need more right now is continuity as it takes years to build a really successful football team. Tubberville has been pretty good in that regard up until Saban started cleaning up in recruitment.

Also, you can't leave the boosters and AM radio sportscasters out of this decision. They weigh in a lot...

I agree about Strong. He is as responsible, if not more, as Meyer for UF's recent success, especially 2006. As a gator fan, I'm kind of nervous about what's going to happen once Strong gets his well deserved shot at a HC job.
