Bye Autoblog it's been fun

It's beyond terrible.... Not that their content was awesome lately but I hit Autoblog several times a day, and after today I can't see myself going there anymore.

Ugh. Research and shop cars or services, comparisons, insurance quotes, buying guides, "green" articles. All with endless scrolling. Not what I seek in an auto blog. At least they use the whole screen.
I stopped reading about cars online a couple years ago anyway. Only auto site I visited was Autoblog.

Here's what they say about their new design.

OP, I think you mean "bye". 😉

Yeah the new layout sucks and I don't know what they're thinking. It's not just the layout it's that now they're promoting car shopping and stuff way more. Even their images are slow to load. At first I thought they were doing some 8-bit joke or something as the image links for the articles looked like 8 bit renditions but then after several seconds changed into normal images. I'd already mostly been using them for just "first drive" articles (that present info and kinda give a general idea about different things) and the pics and for news.

Carscoops is a decent replacement for the news and images part (for a while Autoblog seemed to betting most of their news pieces from Carscoop or at least citing them). I had stopped checking them for a while since they had a site change at some point and I couldn't get it to function well even enabling scripts. I just checked and their layout is ok. Not sure about the writing (which that was often pretty bad on Autoblog), and I don't think they have reviews so if you were checking Autoblog for that then won't be able to replace it. But I think other sites already did a better job for that.

I used to be an avid Autoblogist including their podcast. But the podcast went down the toilet as soon as Chris Shunk and Zach Bowman were gone. The website followed shortly after.

So glad I'm not the only one.

I left Jalopnik when they switched to small pictures. What a dumb move. But Autoblog's switch to what, a tablet interface? That's just the worst. Went back to Jalopnik, but I miss Autoblog's linear format with big pictures. They need a classic view mode for their website.

I literally stopped using Autoblog because of their new layout.

I use an RSS reader to find the stories I want to read, then use Readability to remove all the crap. It makes Autoblog more tolerable.
