By what authority is the EU able to fine/screw around with Microsoft?

Evidently, the EU has some sort of authority over European stock markets and the companies that are traded in them.

they do business there. i guess in theory they could pull out from selling products there, but that would cost more $ than the fines and legal costs

I just find it ridiculous that they just fine them $2 million a day for not "complying with its obligations."

To fine them $2 million for not releasing their own source code? Well damn me, if this isn't straight from somewhere in Germany...

They do business there, thus they can be regulated there. Law is Law is Law.

Same as Toyota doing business in the USA. It's 100% normal.

Read up on how Microsoft was convicted of abusing their monopoly power to illegally destroy competitors and reduce consumer choice.
