By-passing onboard modem DDA module

Either the modem, the onboard modem port, or BOTH is bad on my computer. My motherboard is an AMPTRON PM-598MR and uses a modem DDA module. Since, I don't have another modem that would work with that type of connection, I have disabled the onboard modem.

I have tried a US Robotics 56K Soft FCC PCI Modem, but it is not detected and doesn?t function when I choose it from the driver list without detection. I know there have been problems with this type of modem, but it's the only thing that I had laying around. Has anyone had luck using a different PCI modem with this motherboard? What would be a better modem to try?

(I am running Window 98 SE with 120MB SDRAM and have an AMD K6-2 550 Mhz Processor).

Thank you!
