BY how many CFM's, if that is possible to rationalize....

For example, stock factory intake air filters on family seedans? What about performance factory options? What kind of restriction do you get with private-sector alternatives?

Just curious for the science of it....no way am I doing anythign to my POS.

Depends too much on factory design and aftermarket design differences as well as the engine at the other end.

No need to comapre the too. I guess a better way to put it is, take the best air filter, and tell me how much resistance it adds compared to not having an airfilter at all.

Look also at airbox design, and whether the intake is pulling in cold air or warm air from the engine compartment.

the question itself is flawed.

if your interested in determining pressure drop you would use a manometer

Cold air...the denser the better....

I want to know how efficient air-filtratio ntechnology has gotten...

*mind is working on somethign cool*

I guess another way to put it is lets say I have a supercharger.

how much resistance to the vacum do the best airfilters produce?

You're forgetting the venturi effect of some factory air filter designs. So you'd actually LOSE air flow by pulling the filter... they actually INCREASE vacuum.

Thus why many racecars use air horns to replace factory airboxes rather than simply going without filters. The best filters do very little filtering and a whole lot of flowing. Something on the order of 0.5% or less.
