Great movie, one of the few that successfully builds a world and then gets its humor from living in it instead of throwing it pop culture references, spoofs of other movies * , and Robin Williams shtick.

Buckaroo Banzai
Zoolander

* yes, it's a spoof of Star Trek and its fans, but the humor flows from the world they created not from acting out parodies of specific movie scenes or episodes.

Yeah, I'm a big Star Trek fan but didn't feel like it was just saying how rediculous the Trek universe was. It was a good movie based on the idea of Trek but it didn't try to rip it off or anything. It was genuinly funny on its own.
