Hey;

Finishing my new build and I just noticed one thing: by default when I installed win 8 the disk was set to MBR and not to GPT. All disks which are not my OS disk are GPT. So is it possible to have a OS in GPT Disk?

I do not plan to partition the disk that has the OS in it and the OS Disk is a M.2 SSD Samsung 950 Pro

I googled but none answer directly and from what I got the only difference is if you have a disk greater than 2TB or you want a high number of partitions or plan to use UEFI.

MB: ASUS X99-E WS/3.1
CPU: i7-5930K
CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i V2

Yes, that is possible.
(Assuming motherboard's BIOS supports it, & the boot loader)

If you don't have UEFI it seems like you have to jump through hoops in order to do it though (according to manly's post) unless that's changed on Windows 10.

The Windows installer is probably very simple:
*) If loaded by BIOS, create MBR for system disk.
*) If loaded by UEFI, create GPT for system disk.

If you've got an uefi bios just remember in the future to boot from the uefi listed device in order to initiate a uefi installation of your OS. Otherwise you get a standard mbr install which pretty much flies in the face of having uefi to begin with.
