Bwaa HELP! WindowsXP acting crazy

RU482

Lifer
OK, I activated my copy of Windows over the phone last night, since I just did a system reconfiguration (new mobo, CPU) and it worked great. Tonight, I turned on my PC and everything seems OK.

So I tried to setup my quick launch toolbar. first I unlocked the bottom toolbar and checked the box in "taskbar and Start menu properties" that says "Show Quick launch toolbar". Now, when I go to activate the quicklaunch toolbar, a message box pops up saying "cannot create toolbar"
I think...WTF, and decide I will ask someone here about it, so I click on the Internet explorer Icon on the desktop. Another box pops up and wants me to tpe in the location ,(i.e. C:\\programfiles.....)....another WTF. So, for kicks, I click on the "Windows Update" shortcut on the start menu, and it tells me I need to connect to the internet before it can run, Hmmm. I figure I better look around a bit, so I right click on the start button and open windows explorer (which I could not find IN the start menu...odd) and eventually find the Internet explorer .exe. I can access the internet through this procedure.

Anyone have any idea what's going on here? I've rebooted multiple times, I even got a error reporting message one time.

Thanks

You could try a system restore to a time when everything was working just fine and then try again. I have learned (since yesterday) that I should put in a system restore point just before I go monkeying with anything just in case I hose it up (by mistake of course) and have to start again. The system restore has saved my butt three time already and it will probably do it again. If you can do a system restore your problem might disappear.
