Buzzing coming from my new 6950 is it psu?

I've got my new XFX 6950 installed and up and running fine. In 2D its nice and quiet. But when I goto play games I get a nice buzzing noise coming from it. Or at least I think its coming from the video card. Can a PSU causing a buzzing noise when gaming?

Well (oops, hit submit too soon.. sorry),

Anyhow, yes and no... Most likely you have a cap buzzing on the new card. This would be a fault of the cheap cap used in the build process. However a poor PSU with noisy signals can exaggerate these problems also. Infact, most PC problems can be attributed in some form to bad or dirty power. Good power supplies are, IMHO, the most important part to any build. Everything starts with a good anchor and base.

Now, personally I'd exchange the card itself. But if you're in the market anyhow, you could get a new PSU first to see if it helps any but unless yours is really bad, I wouldn't expect it to cure the problem.

No its the PSU. I just opened my case and put my ear to it while gaming. And its definitely coming from the PSU. I tried a different outlet and it does the same thing. This PSU is about 3 years old. How long is corsair's warranty? I need a new PSU that's for sure...

Wow, Corsair's are usually relatively high quality. Still I do believe they have a 5-year warranty. Their customer service is pretty good so I'd give em a call. It's the same problem though, a buzzing cap or inductor most likely. Which unit is it? If you're pushing it close to it's limit, with it being 3 years old, it's limit will be degraded with age and that may be why it's happening. An upgrade might be a smart move. I have been buying strictly Corsair units for my last dozen builds. The TX750 is a great buy and often on a super sale through the egg lately. Right now it's $99 but I've seen it as low as $70. Seasonic also makes a great unit but it's much higher cost generally. Those are the only units I usually look at but most of the major brands are of respectable quality. The Corsair 550 is only $60 right now if it's an upgrade for ya. The 650 for $70 also. I've got quite a few of both of those myself as well as the 750s and they are all working flawlessly. If you're stressing a smaller power supply, you might just consider time for an upgrade. Retire the smaller unit to a less power-hungry box (HTPC perhaps) or sell it. Or call Corsair to see if they'll swap it out.

Probably just coil whine....happens.

Corsair will replace it because of the whine, but the whine is harmless.

Got a new seasonic 750 x gold series psu. Installed it, and the buzzing is gone. Pc is completely silent now....

I have the same exact problem with my corsair 650TX. Didn't start until a few days ago when I swapped my q9550 for a i2500k.

Buzzing whenever games are played... goes away when I minimize. Pretty annoying!

The only thing is that I would have thought a q9550 uses more power than a i2500k (even oc'd to 4.2) and also I don't think my system is drawing close to 650 watts (c2q or sb).
