Just make sure its the same service pack that came with your laptop. If it came with service pack 2, make sure it is an unbranded copy of service pack 2 Home. By unbranded I mean not a copy that came with a dell or hp and says "dell OS cd"(or somthing like that). It should work fine.

I never said that. But you would have to find the correct CD. Not just any windows Xp home cd will work.

Does the restore CD include windows xp?

Maybe you can reburn it and delete all the other crap. Only save the window xp files.

For dell they give you multiple Cds

i know HP and compaq computers come with a partition that's about 1 gig in size, you can install any OS you want but it wont work unless you get rid of this certain partition.

College book stores or find someone on the faculty at a college. A friend that teaches at a college got me a copy of XP Pro for $50.

The CDkey on the bottom of your laptop will work with the same version of XP Home CD (probably OEM version)

Internet activation probably WONT work, so youd have to call it to get activated, but of course youll still need the drivers for all the devices (modem, lan, wireless, video, chipset, etc)
Did you find a CD yet ?

nope. i accidentally removed the video driver and couldnt reinstall it through the driver cd that came with the laptop. so i ended up just reloading a ghost image. blah, this is my first time owning a laptop. didnt know its so complicated.

I own a legal CD key that came with my computer, but I don't have a Windows Home OEM CD.
How can I get the CD?
Can I order one from Microsoft or something?
None of my friends seem to have it :(

It's not piracy if you already legally own a license, is it?

Getting Win XP pro is not going to help your situation.... Most laptop video cards are not set up to take ATI or Nvidia drivers... Check out rage3d forums as they ussually have a way to hack ATI drivers.

WT* Why?

Oh and yes I got hold of a Windows XP Home RETAIL CD, but the key on my computer label didn't work with it.
I need an OEM.
