Buying an i7-870 processor for 275, just the OEM chip. What would be the best way to test it (other than POST in a mobo?) I want to give it the whole 9 yards before I pay for it.

I was thinking prime95, unless you folks have a better thought?

I've heard of it, I'll DL that this morning. I'll be testing in a known good motherboard so I'll check the documentation on the test. thank you!

Set it for 8 threads and max memory to really test things. If it passes that, its good to go.

Actually I'd say test it with both IBT and P95, just because I've heard stories of people passing 10 hrs+ of P95 but fail after a few passes of IBT, and the other way around. Either one alone could miss something (very rarely I'd say), but testing with both would be better.

Is LinX the same thing?

50+ passes or more - BEWARE OF YOUR CORE TEMPS!

LinX is the same as the Intel burn test. Though LinX is certainly fancier looking than the version of IBT I have... mind you I have no idea if IBT has an updated GUI lately. At any rate, same code in a different wrapper.
