Okie.

Will be building two comps soon, one for my wife and one as my "bot box". I play DAoC and currently run two accounts at once from my main comp, it's not optimal, so I'll throw together a very basic box to run my bot on.

Anyway, she's been content with her XP 1800 on an ASUS A7N-266-VM AA for some time(mainly she just surfs), but 3 things have made her interested in a new comp:
1- Her parents' computer (that we built for them 4 years ago) died, so we need to make them another.
2- She really likes the look and quiet of my new Sonata build, and I snagged two Sonatas, so she'd like the other pretty case.
3- She wants to try to fiddle with the video from our digital camcorder, but needs Firewire and probably a little more muscle to do it.

Her existing computer (with a new HD installed) will go to the parents. Dad does some photoshop, but since he was used to doing it on an AMD K6-2 450, I can hold off on getting him an AGP card.

Now, what mobo should I buy for her new build and my secondary box? I like the nForce2 all in ones with onboard sound, lan and video. I've seen recommends for Shuttle and Biostar stuff on AT before, my main experience is Epox and some ASUS. I've got all the parts for her box except mobo and maybe processor from Hot Deals or leftovers.

My secondary box will probably inherit the 2100 Palomino I have floating around. It won't need real performance (probably 800x600) since it's a bot box and file storage.

Budget is, I generally can buy any one piece that's under $100 if I space it out some, multiple chunks or big $200 vid cards will have me sleeping on the couch. Paying cash or debit card locally gets me in less trouble than banging the credit cards.

Thoughts?

Oh, and I'll stick with what I'm comfortable with, Athlons and nVidia, less learning curve.

Well I just learned that the SOYO board offered at Tiger Direct does not have Firewire in spite of the product details. So that kills my recommendation.
