So my current TV (57inch Rear Sony Projection) has some burn in and I'm ready to upgrade.....

I have a fairly large room the TV is going in, 16 feet wide by 21 feet long. It can be light controlled with some shades....

I'm looking at two types of technology.......Large DLP/LCD Rear Projection Sets, 60-70 inches large....

and

DLP Front Projectors.....probably around 100-110 inch after mount.

I play XBOX 360 and have HD DVR from Comcast, so HD Programming is important.

Does anyone have any experience with either of the two TV's I'm looking at?

I like the idea of a 70inch TV, like a Sony/Toshiba.....but really want larger for gaming and movies......I just dont want to give up the HD quality these sets have......

Thanks,

Mackie

If you are going to go with the projector I would make sure I have a regular tv for normal everyday viewing. But projectors sure make it nice.

Panasonic AE900 projector. You'll never regret it. Unfortunately a rebate deal just expired where you get $200 from Panasonic and $300 in Blockbuster coupons. I own the AE700 as well as a Sony 57" CRT. You almost never get over the wow factor with the projector and a big screen. I have a 129" diagonal screen so it's roughly 4X the viewing area of the 57" Sony.

You can still get a pretty good deal on a Japanese model off ebay

How far are you going to be sitting away from the screen?

Well, I have a couch in the back, about 17 feet from the TV now and then two chairs up front, bout 8-9 feet away........

It's 21 feet wall to wall....

I think projector is the way to go as well....just dont wanna lose alot of high def quality...

Well a good projector is still going to look quite good.

Go out and demo some if you want to check them out. Sorry if I missed it, but did you mention a budget somewhere?

For you guys with the AE900, is the contrast ratio really 5000:1? Is that right for an LCD?

I've got an SP4805 and love it but would like to go a notch higher in resolution.

if you will be playing alot of xbox and whatnot on it go with a actual TV. Bulbs dont last that long on a projector (although the panasonic series are rated at 5000 hours in low power mode [i have an ae700]) But with each additional bulb costing 400 bucks its not something you want to use alot.

And IMO if you can get the room dark personally Ive never seen a HDTV that "looks" better than my lens filtered ae700 (color reproduction is awesome and has that punch most TV's dont have although it has to do with the screen size too).

I have a 4805 too, but I've read that increased contrast ratio was one of the biggest improvements on teh ae900 over the ae700.

In that general range, I'd be checking out the 720p DLP projectors. I haven't seen the current model (7210), but the Infocus 7200 I saw looked excellent.
