Buying Singles/EPs for $10+

I can't understand why singles are usually the same price (or MORE!) as the album they're on. So what, they have 2 or 3 extra tracks, but unless they're SUPER rare, they aren't worth it! Why can't singles be closer to $5 instead of $15, and why the hell do people agree to pay that much for them?
