My Mom wants to go to canada, but doesn't have the money. I am planning on buying her plane tickets, but I'm not sure if these online ticket purchases can be trusted. I searched expedia.com and found tickets to be at about ~250, with american airlines. I went to the american airlines webpage and found one to be about ~600 and the rest to be about ~250. Any reason why such a big price difference? I just did a basic search. Has anyone had experience with buying airline tickets online?

About the worst place to buy tickets is the big airline's website. They jack up prices by ungodly amounts. Unless you are talking Southwest or similiar, stay away from buying tickets directly from them. Try hotwire, orbitz, expedia, travelocity.

No, they'd be eTickets. You'd just give your name and ID at the counter at the airport.

I've used Expedia and Priceline. Both work well, and there's no reason not to trust them. They wouldn't be in business if they weren't getting the tickets to people. I always use E-ticketing. Its easier at the airport, and I don't have to worry about them sitting in the mailbox.

I've found tickets on the major airlines sites (America West and Northwest mainly) that are the same price, if not $10-25 cheaper, most of the time. Sometimes even cheaper than that. Obviously, shop around, but the airlines websites are not always the most expensive.
