Buying parts for New Rig Tomorrow. Feedback Appreciated

Well I'm taking the plunge and I'm going to order these parts for a new system tomorrow. If you think I can do better by cutting costs somewhere without sacraficing performance I'd appreciate any suggestions! I will be overclocking the processor on air.

A64 3700+ San Diego ZipZoomFly $271.00

EVGA 7800GTX ZipZoomFly $549.00

EVGA Nforce4 SLI MB ZipZoomFly Free

Antec LANBOY Case Local Store $30.00

2gb OCZ PC3200 Platinum NewEgg $261.00

Maxtor DiamondMax 10 6B250S0 w/16MB Buffer 250GB Serial ATA 7200RPM ZipZoomFly $104.50

Enermax EG565P-VE FMA 535W Power Supply ZipZoomFly $91.50

Total: $1,307.00

I'm upgrading because I'm a hardcore gamer anticipating the release of Quake 4 and I want the best possible performance for the money. I was going to wait and see how the R520 turned out but with the step up program EVGA has plus their free motherboard deal, it would be foolish to wait. If the R520 is better I can trade it in for free or pay the difference assuming the R520 is more expensive.

A few big questions though:
1) I'm only going to be playing Quake 4 in 1280x1024 in low settings to get as many frames as possible for online/LAN play. Would it be smarter to just get the 7800GT for 100 bucks less? Correct me if I'm wrong but I think I'd only benefit using a 7800GTX if I'm using higher resolutions with highest quality settings.

2) Is it worth paying an extra 40-50 bucks on that Platinum ram or should I go with OCZ or Corsair Value instead?

All comments/suggestions are very welcome and appreciated.

1) Why do you want more FPS? Anything over about 18-24fps can't be seen by the human eye... Why not turn up the resolution/AA/AF and have it run at 40fps, rather than play it at crap settings but getting 200fps???

Any hardcore gamer can easily tell the difference between 60 fps and 120 fps for example. It's one of the reasons LCD's suck compared to CRT's because LCD's are incapable of displaying high framerates due to refresh rate limitations. But that's another topic entirely.

Correct if Im not wrong but isnt 60 is when you cant be seen by the human eye cause when i play FPS and the frames go down to 20 It looks like the matrix

Guess what? I already play Quake 4 lol

Well, if you dont class HL2, CS: Source, Doom3 or Battlefield as FPSs, then no, i dont play many FPS games.

Your eyes cannot tell the difference between a fame rate that stays above 24, and a frame rate that stays above 100.

Maybe your slow eyes can't. Have fun playing an fps with 18-24fps...

If your eyes could see above 24fps, then you wouldn't be able to watch TV or DVD's without the image continually flickering...

Ok so does anyone have any feedback to give and can anyone answer my questions with some certainty

Check out Newegg's 7800gtx + processor or mobo combos.

Maybe its not bad, but I don't think I would buy (or use) an EVGA motherboard.

If you aren't overclocking a ton, consider 2 sticks of 1G each OCZ kit-- 2-3-2-5. It's a little cheaper, I think.

My guess is you could do better at Newegg with what you are buying, although ZZF is often cheaper.

A 7800GT would probably get you a nicer/newer case/PSU, and while it would not be the best, would probably match up with a 3700 just fine.

The business about 'the human eye' and fps is just talk. You might not be able to 'see' the frames, but you can definitley tell the difference, even at 100fps +

I think a 7800 GT is pretty solid to begin with, and there are factory overclocked versions that can stand up to the gtx pretty well, bfg/xfx/ etc.

Don't knock the evga mb. The EVGA motherboard is a rebadged Jetway that kicks ass. I've heard lots of positive things about it thus far including the anandtech review HERE Plus it's FREE!

The ram you're referring to is what I listed HERE

If the 7800GT is going to give me the same amount of frames as the GTX at the resolution and settings that I play at then I'm all for saving a few bucks. That's why I have it as one of my questions which is still unanswered unfortunately. Otherwise I'm willing to spend extra for a few more fps.

I chose the Antec Super LANBOY case because I am planning on doing some traveling to LAN parties including the CPL which is in Texas (I'm in St. Petersburg, FL). What other case out there would be as good as the Antec LANBOY with the occasional traveling as a consideration? I'm open to suggestions because I've found none and all the reviews I've read on the LANBOY are positive. Don't let the price I listed fool you. Here is NewEggs price for it HERE

CompUSA. They have it priced at $89.99 normally but they have $10.00 Instant Rebate and $40 Mfr Mail-in Rebate making the total $39.99. I had a $10.00 dollar gift card I had saved from a long time ago so I only paid $30.00 for it. Pretty sweet deal. I just picked it up and got home 5 minutes ago. I suggest you jump on it right away.
