I'm about to start buying parts to have a new pc built for me on monday & wanna know what you guys think of what i'm thinking of buying & lmk if i should get anything else.

Here's what i got on my list at the moment -

P4 2.4c retail - $171.50 shipped via 2day mail
Abit IS7 - $94.50 shipped via 2day mail
2 - 120gb WD SE - $105 each shipped via 2day mail
Black 52x Lite-On cdrw = $45 shipped via 3day mail
Black Lite-On Dvdrom - $39 shipped via 3day mail
Logitech Cordless Elite Duo Black Keyboard & Optical Mouse Combo - $67 shipped 2day
Case - Not sure on what to get.I dont really wanna spend over $100 on a case.
Moniter - Also not sure on what to get.

As for as memory this is where i'm stuck at.At first alot of people told me to get 2 sticks of 512 cosair xms pc3200 but after reading some posts i hear that this mobo had some problems with the pc3200 memory. But i'm on a budget here & dont think i can really aford 2 sticks of 512 pc3500 at the moment. So what i wanted to ask you guys is should i just get 2 sticks of 256 pc3500 & run them dual channel as i hear that will run faster then just 1 stick of ram.I'm using this pc for encoding which takes up 100% of my cpu usaged so i'm not sure if it's more memory i need also.I'm still new to all of this pc thing.

All the help & advace needed thanks

The Antec SLK3700 is a nice case for $65 + $15 ship at newegg.com

If you're not overclocking you could get Crucial 2x 512 pc3200 at $94 each (from crucial.com or newegg.com) otherwise 2x 256 now and 2 more later.

Also if not overclocking, a 2.6C for $220 from newegg might be worth the extra $50 for the 8% speed boost. For encoding (rather than editing) it will probably help performance more than having 1 GB RAM instead of 512 MB.

Have you picked out a video card?

I always go with Antec Cases, reletivly cheap for the functionality w/o much eye candy. Don't forget to include software with your budget, winXP if thats wut ur gunna use or whatever.

For monitors you can prolly pick up a good 19" CRT for under $300 my viewsonic is pretty good and only set me back $270 with 3yr warranty.

I beleive all the Corsair memory problems were fixed with the latest BIOS updates but i'm not 100% sure. Depends how much memory you need, 1Gig or 512Mb. Or decide if u NEED 1Gb.

As for the memory DC (dual-Channel) will be faster by far, it's kinda like RAID 0 for RAM only different. 2x Sticsk of ram IS the way to go.

GL on your rig!

Those that Antec case come w/power ?

I was thinking of having my guy o/c it to at least 3ghz as i hear this can hit that with np at stock cooling.

Yeah i think i'm just gonna get the 2 sticks of 512 ram.I might got somebody whos selling me some pc3500 for a ok price.

Nope nothing on the vid card as i want something simple.I don't play any type of games or watch movies etc,

DEffinately go with Dual Channel whatever, if your going to overclock then your best with the 3500 and if you can afford 1gb then go for it if not your not going to notice terrible performance with 512

Go with the Kingston Hyper X. Seems to run pretty good in the 865/875 boards.

Last week, I bought similar stuff (IS7, 2.4 ghz p4c). I chose the Crucial pc3200 memory, (2x256). Paid $48 each shipped.

As far as the case, I'd echo the recommendation of Antec cases. I bought the SX1040BII from Newegg. It comes with a 400 W PSU. Right now, its not in stock, and over your $100 limit shipped ($95 + $18 shipping). I bought it onsale, and it came out to $100 exactly shipped ($82 + $18 shipping). But they have other Antec cases, and they do come with quality power supplies.

Just a suggestion, maybe instead of getting separate dvd and cd-rw drives, you should look into a combo drive. It will save you a few dollars to spend towards something else. It all depends on your personal preference.

All looks great. For RAM, if you don't wanna OC get Crucial (it's cheap). If you do wanna OC, Corsair XMS and Kingston HyperX are great.
