Buying pants online..why so hard?

So i'm not one to like to go into stores and shop for clothes. I buy shirts and stuff online mostly, simply because its easier and more options. I don't have problems with most stuff..except pants.

Out of maybe 20 pairs of pants i've ordered online, four have been right size. Thats right 4.

So i did some research on this, why such a discrepancy in sizes when I buy them. Here is what i found out, the hard way.

1. Each manufacture sizes pants differently. A 32x32 from one could be a 34x34 in another.
2. The TYPE of pants also changes sizes, relaxed is ofter bigger than what you wear..but not always, a cargo/loose fit smaller pants leg but bigger waist. wtf?
3. Material type is also dependent on size.

Browsing the reviews on amazon.com lots of people have issues with size. One pair I got the tag on pants of Levi showed 32/32..but the peel off stick on left was 34/32. I used tape measure on pants..it was 34/34! lol

Does anyone know why they even bother with pant sizes when ordering? Is there a site someone has never had problems with regardless of type of pants?

vanity sizing.

suck it up and go to the stores... once you find a brand/style/size that fits you perfectly, then buy it online.

I've had similar problems with pants sizes. Normally, I would just pick up a pair that was the size that I had been wearing (and still fit obviously), but I'd find that usually the legs were too long. Length-wise, I wear between a 38 and a 42 depending on whatever circumstance 😛.

As long as they're not too short it's okay. If they're too long, they can just be hemmed.

I'm not so sure that's even great advice. I wear mostly Haggar Cool 18 khaki pants at work (they're really comfy 🙂), and they still have the same problem of varying sizes. I have a pair that are 40 length and fit just right, but another that's 40 and are definitely too long.

Although, I've been buying them for a few years, so the manufacturer may have adjusted things over time which caused the incongruity.

Like i said, that won't work. The sizes are different. Just because you get one pair that fits, does not mean the online one you order will.

I have never had this problem. I can't even remember the last time I actually tried on a pair of pants, it's been 15+ years. I always get the same size and never a problem no matter who makes them.

Good god, go try them on. If you can get them for a better price online THEN buy the EXACT brand, size, and style online if you want.

I like to order my pants online too since my size (32x32) is so freaking common that they're pretty much always sold out in stores when there is a sale.
There really is no consistency. I've even ordered the same exact pair of jeans that I already had one time and couldn't even come close to zipping it up, but the other pair I had fit great.

And you're just learning this? Buying pants online isn't so "convenient" is it?

Go to local stores and try on the pants. How hard is this? Do you buy multiple pairs a week? Is this how you avoid doing laundry?

Clothes and food are two things that the internet will almost never replace.

Get outside, the sunlight will probably do you some good.

what brand?

I've never experienced this... the clothes that I buy online typically have the price tags and everything that you'd find in the store, leading me to assume that at some point in the supply chain, they're coming from the same warehouse.

I have no choice. No one sells size 58-60 in stores, so I have to buy online. I never get a pant that fits me well. 🙁

Levi's/dockers mostly.

There's a study out there that says a good 50% (? a big chunk, let's say that) of online clothing sales get returned. You just partly explained why.

I hate trying pants/clothes on in store, so I just try to eye-size it, bring it home, pose and make kissy-face infront of mirror, then keep or return. But I usually stick to the same few stores so the variation in sizing isn't too big.

I tried on a pair of jeans in store a couple weeks ago. Same brand, same size, different style, one size fit perfectly, the other was too tight. I personally wouldn't order clothing online.

Why? I would think the hassle of returning to the store to return items would be far worse than just trying them on in the store.

I think part of the reason is because while the waist size and leg length may be correct that doesn't necessarily mean it will fit your other characteristics as well. People have different sized/shaped butts, legs, etc. Fit can vary greatly from brand to brand. Just save yourself the hassle and shop for pants in store.

I just find trying stuff on doesn't work that well at the store. There's a feeling of pressure to put it on, make sure it fits quickly, then buy or put it back. At home, you have an hour if you feel like it to check every detail, then you can take it off and try it again later.

I live within walking distance of a huge mall, so not that big a deal. I also go to that mall once or twice a week, so it's not really a hassle. Also, since I usually stick to the same few stores, it usually works out.

Man, I'd be surprised if I go to the mall once a month and it's only a few miles from my home. I just pick out a bunch of pants/shirts I like and just take them into the dressing room and try them on. If they fit well and look good to me I buy them. If not, I just leave them.

I've never felt pressured while trying on pants. Do you go to some kind of Nazi mall where the employees bang on the changing room door and demand you hurry up?
