Trying to decide on a great P4 Air cooled HSF combo. I?m definitely not into any type of water cooled stuff. I'm buying tomorrow morning, so any suggestions or comments would be helpful.

I will be putting this on a ABIT IC7 & Kingston HyperX PC3500 512 X2 & P4c 2.4c to O?C to about 3.2+. I?d like to get a great HSF combo that will get me to at least 3.2Ghz with stability, anything beyond this is nice but not ?required.?

So far I?ve decided on the Zalman CNPS7000-AlCu for $35 @ NewEgg. I?m not really interested in the ALL CU version as its way too heavy and I?m too worried about damaging my MB while moving my case, and from what I read it only cools better by about 2-4 degrees C. Not really worth it.

These are the other alternatives I?m looking at:

1. Swiftech MCX4000-B

2. Thermalright SLK-800-U

3. Thermalright SLK-900-U

Could anyone out there please give me your opinions? Of course if you already have one of the above, I?m sure you?ll recommend it. But would anyone know of a comparison of the above 4 head to head?

The last thing, I?m wondering is if this is just getting out of hand with the $$ I?m spending. I mean is $35 good enough to O?C to 3.2 with my CPU? Do I really need to spend around $50-60 for one of the above Heatsink, and then a FAN and Fan controller? I just think anything over $45-50 for a HSF combo is a bit excessive.

Does anyone think that I have a good chance of getting to 3.2Ghz with the Zalman, or would I need something beefier above?

Thanks

I'm running a 2.4c 800fsb at 3.3ggi with the stock HSF so I'm pretty sure the Zalman or the others would be fine for 3.2g. One reason mine is ok with the retail HSF is I haven't had to increase the vcore above default, otherwise I was considering getting the Zalman 7000 ALCU or the HSF 'Oldfart' recommends , an Alpha 8942 with a quiet fan.

I know the Zalman fits the IC7 but I'm not sure if it would hit my powersupply which is very close to the top edge of my motherboard. Something to check.

Yeah, in the begining I was thinking of getting the Spark 7, but I didn't think it would be able to get me up there. As for my PS, when I bought my new case, the Antec 1080AMG, it comes with the Antec True Power 430W supply.

Another thing is I'd like to see how long I can O'C the CPU with the Vcore at default.

Anyone else?

Can anyone else Help here??

I'll be ordering in about 2 or 3 hours. Or should I just stick with the HSF I already picked out. Thanks

The Zalman is pretty good, I got the ALL CU one, it's really heavy.

But this is my result, you can view this link:

I have no experience with the Zalman, but the heavier the better, as all of the ones you listed are heavy, copper-based heatsinks. The more you overclock the better your hsf combo should be so those 2-4 degrees does make a difference.
