Buying OEM CPUs...

Does anyone know a good place to buy OEM CPUs without the heatsink? Mainly looking for AMD. Also, a good place to me ships them with the appropriate packaging and has decent prices.

I for one am waiting for the AMD thuban 1035t 6 core. seen some promising Oc results. I'd buy intel this go around of upgrades but I am waiting for the sandy bridge bulldozer show down. see who luaghs last.

The problem is, frankly, that OEM chips are often more expensive than retail ones. Usually the really cheap OEM chips people find are grey market chips that were either pulled from systems, or were not meant for the US market. In either case, you run into warranty issues.

For the pittance you save trying to hunt down an OEM chip, just get a retail one and save the hassle 🙂

Well, you didn't really help. I came to this decision long before I checked this topic again and saw your post.

You usually are. I've priced OEM stuff and there often isn't enough of a cost savings. For instance at eWiz OEM chips are usually $5-10 less. However, retail box chips often have free shipping while OEM chips often do not. The other thing is warranty. I'd say around 99% of places that sell OEM chips to end users have warranties no longer than 30 days. Regardless of what anyone says, the warranty on OEM chips is however long the RETAILER wants to stand behind them for. You are NOT getting any warranty on OEM chips from Intel/AMD. (disclaimers apply yada yada I know some people have but that's not their policy etc etc)
