Buying new video card

Should I go with Nvidia or ATI and which one ? I know, I know you need to know what resolution I will be playing at. At the moment 1680x1050.

If you don't feel like waiting for DX11 cards,

Your options are:

4870 1GB - $106 with Bing Cash Back http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/...0380&prodlist=celebros
GTX 260 216 - $116 http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/...0294&prodlist=celebros
4890 1GB - $154 http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/...0282&prodlist=celebros

4870 is probably the best bang for the buck, although that GTX260 comes with 55nm B3 revision chips and should overclock like a champ.

ATi cards run faster in GRID, Fallout 3 and Red Alert 3 off the top of my head, while NV cards run faster in Far Cry 2 and HAWX and Dawn of War 2.

4890 OCed would be the fastest card from these, but it is up to you if you want to pay $48 over 4870 for it.

Best on a budget would definitely be the 4870. Plenty of card for that resolution as well. The 4890 is probably a bit of overkill.

If you don't plan to change resolutions anytime soon then the 4870 should be just fine. I'm running everything at max settings at that resolution and keeping above 50 fps using a 4850, but I'd go with the 4870 because it doesn't cost much more and it'll keep you covered for a bit longer than a 4850.
