finally getting a new router and was looking at couple of different options. one was the netgear wnr834, which got good reviews. anyway anyone speak from experience?

i need great coverage, and lots of options and features for port forwarding etc... i know they all come with the ability but i have found netgear ones to be easier to do and i like the ability to see attached devices. there will be roughly 9 computers connected (i have 16 port switch for it) and if any of the new routers have ability to see which computer uses most broadband etc.. that would be awesome

Honestly, stay away from netgear, linksys & probably smc. Dlink is an ok brand. The ones most recommended are the buffalo WHR-54GS and the Zyxel (both are found on newegg for $40-$60. I have the buffalo unit and it's been rock solid for me.

I dont think you can beat a buffalo whr-HP-54 with dd-wrt firmware for the money. that being said im now looking into building my own with the dd-wrt x86 software and an old computer I have laying around.

I picked up the Netgear WNR834B from Fry's website (refurbed) for 49.99 plus free shipping last week, and so far, it has been flawless...Easy to set up, and getting good to very good signal through the whole house (2,800 Sq ft tri-level). I'm running the router in the basemment, and my daughter on the second floor gets 54 MPS (she has a regular Netgear G 54 MPS card). TIVO and wife's laptop located in the family room get great reception and throughput as well.

Some people have had problems with it, I guess, but I couldn't be happier...

My D-Link was crap, and tech support was of no help. RMAed 4 times and I still got that rebooting problem. I then got a Linksys WRT54GS (too bad I can't use speedbooster). The D-link is my backup router now. I RMAed the Linksys cus of rebooting issues so now I'm using the D-Link one. I have the DI-624 which was an absolute pain. Right now, I'm using the firmware version 2.76 for the DI-624 which is the only one that works for me.
