im looking to buy an LCD screen mostly for gaming and programming. im interested in the NEC 20wmgx2 and was wondering if anyone owned it and could vouch for it. im also looking at the dell 2405 as an option. the thing that worries me about the 2405 is that i will always need a good video card to keep up with that native resolution. i currently have 1900xtx but in a year or two who knows. anyone have any suggestions, if cost doesn't matter?

I own it -- its a great screen. Very deep blacks and accurate color OOB. With a little more tweaking, it looks perfect. The speakers, PIP, and other inputs like component are really nice if you want those. I especially like PIP cos I watch some news while I'm on forums or installing XP or something like that. Very Nice.

The opticlear screen makes everything look extremely vivid and I wouldn't trade it in for anything else. It also has the ability to accept centered timings if you want to use lower res for some intensive games (I fixed that by going crossfire! ;))
I whole heartedly recommend it. BTW, I've had it about since it was out here in the states so I don't have honey moon syndrome.

haha i like that. yeah PIP is nice, didn't know it had that. the opticlear, how glossy is it? i dont' like the really glossy screens. also how is the glare? and since your past the honey moon syndrome, could you do it over again, would you have gone for bigger screen IE the dell 2405?

btw your system is almost identical to mine, i just don't have xfire yet.

:D

Well, the opticlear doesn't glare for me... It's close to a window but still I don't see its reflection.

As for would I do it again...I'm saving up to buy another one! Bigger screen? Only if there was a 25wmgx2 :)

man wish i could see it in person. i doubt any normal store would have this on the shelf. one more question, have you had to drop the reso for any game so far? did the monitor scale down nicely?

thanks again

Catalyst Control Center has a centered timings option which will run games scaled. Works perfectly (not with crossfire, unfortunately...but then again, with crossfire I don't need to! -- not yet anyway).
Games I can see giving you trouble @ this res are really only oblivion, but you can always turn some settings down.

I have the NEC and I am extremely happy with its image quality for gaming, movied and HDTV. However, it refuses to center games played with lower than native resolution even though I have CCC set to do so (I'm using an ATI 1900 xtx). All games are displayed full screen regardless of resolution. I can live with this since most games have native widescreen or a widescreen solution found by Widescreen Gaming Forum (though not all, a recent example being Civcity:Rome).
