I would never buy an acoustic guitar any way but in person. I've played piano since i was 5 since and guitar since I was 15. I'm now 60. My acoustic is a 1970 Martin D-28, and I can tell you for sure that every wood and bronze instrument is unique. Every Steinway piano is not "the Steinway piano," and every Martin guitar is not "the Martin guitar" of legend. Fortunately, mine is one of them. 😀
If you live in a good sized city, look for a good used instrument. Take an experienced guitar playing friend with you to help you choose a good one.
A cheap instrument that doesn't play well will turn you off to it, even if you have the talent. If it has a bad action, you would have to work way too hard to get any good sound out of it, if that is even possible. If the intonation is off, there is no way you can play in tune up and down the neck, or even with different chords at the same neck position.
If you're serious about it, spend as much as you can afford to get a decent instrument. A used one will keep its value. If you don't damage it, it will even gain value, so your investment will be protected.
Enjoy yourself. Music is a gas, but it requires an instrument capable of playing music.
Happy hunting. 🙂
