Do I want DVD+R or DVD-R? It will mainly be for data backups, and maybe copying DVD movies.

Thanks. :)

Depends what your dvd player can run (if you have one for your TV)....

If it doesn't matter, the cheaper? Maybe DVD+R...

If you're looking for the cream of the crop media you want Taiyo Yuden. Certain media doesn't last as long as some. If you have critical data that you need I'd probably put it onto several DVDs and an external drive as opposed to just depending on one main backup.

I was going to keep it duplicated on two hard drives, and then backed up to DVD and tossed in the safe.

In that case my guess would be TY media but there may be others that are specifically designed for long term storage. Try www.cdfreaks.com, they have a forum that has an entire section dedicated to media alone.
