Buying my CPU water block tonight need a little help..

Hello all,

I'm looking to buy my cpu water block tonight I've decided on the ek supreme plexy top block. I will add 1/2in barbs to my order but am I missing anything else? Does the ek come with a back plate? If not do I need one? Also I need a T line fitting as well which one to get? I'm using the masterkleer 7/16 tubing. Many thanks to those who reply.

Anyhow i said until it misteriously disapeared, that you need a backplate.

I didnt get one on the 2 supremes i have. I dont think eddie ships them with the supreme.

You have 3 options.

1. Thermalright's backplate will work, you disgaurd everything else but the backplate.
2. Scythe makes an awesome backplate as well.
3. Swiftech has a backplate, althought they swear they designed it themselves, however it looks 100% like thermalrights. 😛
4. D-tek also makes a backplate.


Try to avoid thermaltake's backplate. The H support isnt so great. You want a 4 point X.

Evil, T line if you want a drain, or you want to skip res. However arent you getting the XSPC and DDC combo?
 
Hey Aig yes I already have the XSPC res just waiting for newegg to get the pump back in stock. I thought I read in your water noob faq that you suggest a T line as well as a res if not great happy to do without a T line

Thanks for the help btw there are no issues with leakage on the ek plexy tops right?
Yeah I'll get the back plate as it frees up my TRUE for something else who knows maybe I'll sell it. Good deal for someone as it is already lapped to a mirror finish

There is only 2 ways the plexiglass top can leak.

1. Your a noob and you used alcohol on the rubber ring so its cracked.
2. Your a noob and you overtightened to the MAX on the barb. Remember they dont need to be super tight. Just Firm.

THe ORING does the sealing, not the top.

THe plexi top i prefer cuz the EK has JETs.
JETS get clogged over time.
Plexigass lets you inspect the jets without having to take your entire loop apart.
Plexiglass FTW!

Cool so plexy for the win great I like the look better anyway. I was reading a tread from someone over there as I read more someone else wrote exactly what you just did LOL. Looks like frozencpu has the best price so I'll get it from them tomorrow also I'll get the X bracket as you suggest they sell it there as well. So when I tighten the barbs in when I see the orings start to compress stop right?
Many thanks Aig your helpful as always glad I asked before ordering also biocide is it nessisary? How do I know if a jet is clogged? Do you actually see the water streaming cool!

Yeah i probably spanked him a while back ago when he said something that stupid.

You try jab-tech and Sidewinders? Frozen is one of the most expensive places you can shop at. However there a no BS store, meaning you get exactly what you ordered and exactly when they promised.
 
It may have been that guy. I tried all the usual web stores believe it or not frozencpu was the cheapest of all! $65.99 for a plexytop ek supreme jab and sidwwinder were $69.95 non plexy btw I think the top was extra

BTW I read the madshimps review of the ek supreme wow what a performer. If those numbers are true for their 3.6ghz OC'ed q6600 loaded temps that's 22 deg lower than my loaded air cooled temps amazing! Not to mention the idle temps seem impossible. 24c idle! There is no comparison to air if their numbers are true

Does better with more pressure.

Funny thing is all ive been saying about this block was true.
Yet no one gives me any credit for it. :[

And all the people are doing is just reproducing my results. 😛
 
My Swiftech 355 pump will source enough pressure right? Well kudos to you very nice suggestion Aig you clearly understand the water game and it's true your water noob faq gave me the inspiration to try it out and I'm sure many others

355 + XSPC REs/TOP is the best single pump solution in regards to head pressure. Well RD-30 is better.

So yes, you got a very powerful setup coming soon. Just take your time to set it up correctly, and at the end of this, you'll be saying OMG! WOW unbelievable.

Well honestly i got it cuz its a good bench pump. Awesome head pressure, but by heavens lord, no one needs an iwaki.

Its like saying i need a APC tank to drive to the super market instead of a SUV.


Evil let me give you a disclaimer.

Once you get a good water setup, you can never go back. You'll get really comfortable with the performance on it, and air will bother you til no tomorrow.

This is the CPU cooler it took to make me go "Ummm.. Whatever it does its job!"

I couldnt drop it under water for 2 reasons.

1. GFX cards arent reference so i cant use FC blocks.
2. I am gonna loan this rig from time to time to my cousin who just started getting into lanpartys.
 
That's the new thermalright x-14 or something wow it's big out of curiosity what is the idle and loaded temps with that?. I see you choose the sunbeam cube plexy case are those 8600gt's in sli?. I get your point on the pump. If I do go crossfire down the road will I need another rad?

Absolutely, You can cool the vids on a single loop w/ dual rads but you will have better results w/ a dual loop.
 
That's good to know but I'd have to hang the second rad on the back or side to make it happen. One could go on the bottom but there would have to be allot of creativity on my part to place the res/top/pump combo. Not that your short at all on creativity woodbutcher after seeing your rigs LOL 😛

You'll get it, as for the creativity it's just a matter of what you have seen and are willing to try. I didn't do the bottom mount rad till last year when I saw Aigo had done a system that way. If you see something or an application that interests you send a PM to the owner and ask, w/ the bottom mount I was concerned about the radiator exhaust heating the case, after talking w/ aigo I gave it shot.
I'll grant you I've got years experience cutting into things and fabrication as a carpenter but I've only been modding PC for a few, so it's a learning experience also. Keep at it, taint hard and all the info is out there.

SLI cards usually require dual loops becuase of the imense added heat. The new gen gpu cards are nothing like the new gen cpus. Cpu we always had a power dropage, but seems like gpu's are only getting more and more hungry for power.

ie. 280GTX.

 
Exactly right the gpus are causing also a need for more powerful power supplys I heard 1000W is needed for 280GTX in sli LOL. Well I'll see how do with my single loop then look at another. I question though if my can accommodate a second loop well see thanks for the help guys it is much appreciated. I'll be leak testing soon I'm excited. I need to clean all parts with distilled water fisrt then leak test right? Now so I have the leak test thing down right you measure everything out and hook it up outside the case and wrap tissue paper around the fittings and see if it leaks right? Let it run for 24 hours if no leaks start assembly into case.
