Buying laptop batteries on ebay (or non-Dell vendors)

My battery for my Dell 700m is around 1:30 before it goes into hibernation. It used to be at least 3:30. Sometimes the laptop would shutdown even before hitting hibernation (is currently set to hibernate at 15% remaining).

I can get a 71 WHr (8-cell) on ebay for about $63 shipped or a 65 WHr (also 8-cell) for $139+shipping direct from dell.com. It's advertised as "New GENUINE Dell Inspiron 700M/710M Battery G5345/D5561.", indicating that it's "fresh battery stock". How trustworthy are these batteries?

Most likely not the real deal. That said, I used a 3rd-party battery with an old Omnibook 500 of mine, and it worked great right up to the time I sold it. 🙂

There's not that much difference. The cheap non-OEM batteries use similar cells as the genuine batteries. You know about the dell batteries catching on fire right??? Well at that time we all were hearing what brand batteries were in there. Other companies were using the same cells from the same distributor as dell.
