try searching for the official HL2 thread... or any HL2 thread, as this question has been posted many times.

I wish this forum had moderators.

You are welcome to re-download the game if you need to in the future. And you have to have an internet connection to play it. Not really a big deal in my opinion, but some folks do like having the discs.

Yeah, the Steam Gold deal has gotta be the best deal offered hands down, but I just reallllly like having the physical disc (and not making a backup from Steam) so I bought the collector's edition.

You can copy the .gcf files in the Steam directory to CD/DVD, and when you reinstall, just copy them back into the Steam directory. Then, the only things you need to download are any updates that have been released since you created the CD/DVD

Once HL2 is unlocked, that's exactly what I'm going to be doing on my PC.

oh no, you called me a noob! boo-hoo. i'm going to cry myself into a corner now because you're slinging insults over the internet.

grow up. and even me, as a noob, knows that if you don't have anything positive to add to a thread, you should just stay out of that thread

The book that comes with the CE is only a sampler

The tee shirt is only XL ( I wear a S )

(No soundtrack, no posters, no hat, DOD:S, no complete strat guide (compared to Gold ))

I wanted the DVD but I am happy with a DVD with my steam files on it and so is my wallet

sampler eh? what mean by that? your thoughts intrigue me and I'd like to subscribe to your newsletter. I thought it was supposed to be the "Raising the Bar" book.

Hey y'all, I'm from the HLfallout forums, and we thought it'd be good to spread the word about this topic here which I e-mailed to gabe, who forwarded it to doug lombardi, who sent a reply *phew* lol.

Hi Tom,

The Prima sampler included in the Collector's Edition contains sample
chapters from the Half-Life 2 strategy guide and one chapter from
Raising the Bar.

Cheers

Hey Gabe,

Just wondering about the prima sampler book... some of us at HL fallout
are confused because there are places that say it is the full "raising
the bar" book.

Is it the whole book, or just bits of it, and bits of some other stuff?

thanks,

-"Nan Thoral" of HL fallout

That's what they implied when I first heard about it. Whatever, I throw away the box anyways, I was looking forward to the coffee table book like Warcraft 3 came with.I dont know about spending $90 on the Gold edition though.

Silver package on Steam here. Nothing but software. Best deal if you aren't looking for any collectibles. I had not played the original HL in years and never got very far, so I figured I'd give it aspin - what better way to get psyched up for HL2 than to play the first one? It really still holds its own in terms of gameplay, even compared to much newer games.

You're convincing me here .. I might cancel my CE order .. I really don't care whatsoever for the collectibles.. and while I won't be playing much DOD.. It's STILL 20 bucks cheaper to get HL2, HL:S, and CS:S via the Silver package.. and I ammmm on a college budget .. hmmm

I went with the Silver package. Seemed like the best deal. I'd never played CS:S until I ordered. I've been playing it a lot lately and enjoy it. I still suck, but I get some kills now and can help a team most times. I also never really played Half Life, so HL:S should be another good game for me.
