Buying HDTV

Sceptre 32" for 599 from costco.

Anyone have this TV? How is the picture quality?

Also I'm thinking of getting an indoor antenna. I'm in the Los Angeles area.

Can I expect decent reception of ABC, NBC, FOX and CBS? I'm not interested
in any other channels and I don't want to pay the cable fee monthly.

Any suggestions on antenna also welcome.

I got the Vizio VX32L over that Sceptre. Was $100 more but from what I've read on AVSForums, it's a lot better and looks way better to me.

The picture is great

The speakers are average, so use external speakers if you're picky about audio

It's sometimes hard to get a 16:9 display ratio even if the TV is being fed a 1080 or 720 signal. It's just a design flaw. Upconverting DVD players and HDTV/blueray players seem to display 16:9 just fine if they're connected on the HDMI port.

Don't bother trying to hook up a computer to it with a HDMI-DVI cable, just use the VGA port. I couldn't ever get it to look good with the HDMI-DVI cable. VGA it works flawlessly though on a 1280x720 resolution.

All in all it's a great TV and the price can't be beat for the great quality.

can anyone comment on the SD picture? I assumed the above post was just saying the HD had a great picture.

Just be warned that Sceptre's warranty support is HORRID. I have 2 of their LCDs and like them, but god help you if you have to deal w/ any warranty issues.

Good point. I bought 2 from Newegg before I ever saw them in stores. So I had no choice but to deal with them.

That's one of the reasons I bought this LCD. Also at the time it was one of the few good deals on a 32" with no rebate hassles and free shipping.
