buying GPUs for DC and/or , err, mining.

Saw this one last night, an RX 5700 8GB GDDR6 ASRock model, for $300 USD AP.

They do 50MH/s on ETH, and 750K-1.1M PPD in F@H. Only problem is, they're a lot less compatible with various projects.

Suggestions for potential GPU upgrades, if/when I ever get my $1200 "Trump Check"?

Should I wait for 7nm NV cards? Some people claim that we won't see any 3000-series NV cards this year.

Edit: I currently own a reference blower RX 5700, and 3x GTX 1660 ti cards.

We are, apparently, about 2 weeks away from the Nvidia 3000 series announcement (or 2100 series depending on How they manage the names). I would wait for the announcement at this point, but my understanding was that the new cards were expected around September.

None. You want to wait for the newer generation of 7nm cards which should have rather large efficiency leaps (assuming they are not pushed past efficient part of frequency/voltage curve) over the existing 12nm and 14nm GPUs.

You should do this even if you don't want to buy newer, more efficient GPUs as it is likely older GPUs will also decrease in price accordingly.

Don't know if you noticed, but the GPU that I linked to, is an RX 5700, not an RX 570, and indeed is 7nm. I wasn't aware that the newer-gen 7nm would have much-improved characteristics vis-a-via power-consumption. (Over existing 7nm cards.)

Edit: Maybe you were mostly speaking of NVidia here? I am pretty happy with my GTX 1660 ti cards, but for mining ETH, the RX 5700 doubles their output, at barely more than their cost. (My Gaming X model GTX 1660ti was $310, today, it costs even more. So a $300 RX 5700 seems like a deal to me.)

Wow, that close? I guess I can wait, then. Thanks for the info.
Here is the Anandtech note on Nvidia GTC:
