Yes it is boxed in, but i can remove the shelves if necessary. Half the table is for my monitor and other half books

Depending on shelf depth couldn't you just set a larger monitor in front of it's area and push it back as far as possible?

No I would have to unscrew the top part of the desk if I wanted to get a larger screen, which I do not mind doing.
